Electrolysis Cardiff
Electrolysis is the only hair removal method that can be described as permanent. Laser and IPL are classed as permanent hair reduction. It works on any hair colour, including white, grey, blonde and red hairs that lasers cannot treat, because it does not rely on pigment. At LaserWise, electrolysis in Cardiff is carried out hair by hair over a course of treatments, so results build gradually rather than after one session.
How Does Electrolysis Work?
A very fine probe, no thicker than the hair itself, slides into the follicle opening that is already there. Nothing pierces the skin.
A small electrical current passes down the probe and destroys the blood supply feeding that hair, so it cannot grow back. The hair then lifts out with tweezers, with no pulling.
Only hair in its active growing phase can be destroyed for good, and some of your hair is always dormant. That is why an area needs treating several times, and why results build gradually.
Who Is Electrolysis Best For?
White, grey, blonde and red hair. Laser needs pigment to find the hair. Electrolysis does not.
Small, precise areas. Chin, upper lip, eyebrows, stray hairs on the neck.
Finishing after laser. Clear the bulk with laser, then treat the few pale hairs left behind.
Hormone-related growth, including hair linked to PCOS or the menopause.
Gender-affirming hair removal. Permanent facial and body hair removal at your own pace, in a private room.

Does Electrolysis Hurt?
Most people describe a brief warmth or a light sting as each hair is treated, gone in a second. The upper lip is more sensitive than most areas.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
A course is normal. We book by time rather than by area, from 15 minutes to an hour, so you only pay for the time you use. An upper lip usually needs a series of short appointments over several months.
Should I have Electrolysis or Laser?
At LaserWise, we offer both electrolysis in Cardiff and laser hair removal so that every client gets the right solution for their hair type, skin tone and treatment area.
Electrolysis:
- Works on all Hair and skin types
- Works on any hair colour
- Each hair is treated one at a time so can be time-consuming (not ideal for large areas i.e full legs)
Laser:
- Works on ONLY black/brown hairs (not white, red, blonde)
- The thicker the hair, the better the result
- Can treat many hairs in one go, great for treating large and small areas
Many of our clients have a mix of hair colours and types, which is why we offer both treatments and tailor a plan to suit you. Not sure where to start? Our laser hair removal page explains what lasers can treat, or simply book a consultation, and we will advise you in person.
Electrolysis Aftercare
Your skin may look pink for a few hours. Keep it clean, skip makeup on treated skin for 24 hours, and avoid the gym, sunbeds and hot baths for the rest of the day. Do not pick any small scabs.
